Gauges: How to wire them plug and play style, with a standalone or Terminator X piggyback
If you have anything to add, revise or that is just wrong, comment and we will work together to get it as simple as possible! I have a CPW harness so I don’t have these issues, but I am making it to help others who don’t want to wait 12 weeks for a CPW or who like to DIY things. Thanks for most of this goes to Jeremy Matthews and others who have revised i and let me know how they got theirs working This allows you to convert your harness to a standalone using lt1Swap .com or buy one, then pin in the gauges. Terminator X can be pinned in as well with the wiring diagrams we have, and following down below. S10s from 94-97 are a pain and require stock harness/pcm to be retained to work correctly for many functions, cpw harness is the way to go on these for sure. -WHAT CAN YOU DELETE HARNESS/PCM WISE FROM FUSEBOX?
-1st gens....Unplug the engine harness from the fusebox and LEAVE THE REST ALONE body wise -94-97... unplug stock harness from fusebox and install new CPW harness/LS pcm with the stock pcm/harness -98+... Unplug the engine harness from the fusebox and LEAVE THE REST ALONE
-SPEEDOMETER OUTPUT: --1st gens...... if you have a digital or electronic gauge in your 1st gen, all that is required is to go into HP Tuners/Holley editor and change the "PCM output" to 2000 PPM and hook the PCMs speedo output wire(0411 PCM pin is C2 connector # 50) directly to the speedo input. Your DRAC module IS NOT required anymore! --2nd gens.... Take the VSS output wire coming out of the LS/Holley PCM and splice it into the speedometer gauges input wire. The factory VSS sensor for an LS is the same output(4000ppm) as a s10 PCM, this means it can be used easily with GM or Terminator PCMs and will read correctly -OIL PRESSURE:
Use a 99-02 LS based single wire oil pressure sender and run the pressure output wire from it to the s10 gauges oil pressure input wire
-FUEL GAUGE:
--82-97 s10s this is standalone basically, BUT you will need to ground a wire that went into the original PCM went in order for the buffer to boot up....
---98-02 S10's used duty cycle to measure the level, and use stock LS PCMs fuel output values, simply repin it into the correct pin.
---03-04 S10s switched to PWM style. For these newer 03-04 trucks, all that is required is to get the PWM values from an '03 s10 tune and copy them and paste them into your LS PCMs fuel tables, and pin the fuel level wire into the PCM correctly. Make sure your SERIAL DATA wire is hooked up too!
VOLTAGE GAUGE:
--82-04 trucks are all the same, this is simply driven off the main power of the truck. Nothing to do here as long as the fuse box or gauge cluster has power/ground
TACHOMETER:
--82-93...(not sure yet, still looking for a solution as these are cable driven or run off the distributor) DRAC is not needed though
--94-07 need to go through the stock PCM it seems
--98-04 Trucks... the LS1 tach signal is read properly and the tachometer reads correctly as is on these. Simply pin in the "Engine Speed Tach Output Signal" wire (pin #10 on the C2 connector on a 0411 pcm) somewhere between the c101 connector and the tachometer itself for it to work.
-TEMP GAUGE:
-98-04 trucks Use a 98-02 F-body or 03-07 classic truck three wire sensor and plug into the harnesses corresponding wire functions for 12v/ground/signal
-82-97 Trucks -Use original s10 single wire signal unit on passenger side head and the same 98-02 Fbody 3 wire sensor sensor on drivers side head as the PCM MUST see this data to run the engine. The temp gauge in these arent class2 driven like LS stuff and 98+ s10s, it's driven off a sending unit. For the gauge in the truck, run the single wire sending unit to the body tie in where the original sending unit went.
